My opinion on catalytic converter a.k.a indomie in Nigeria

Since a catalytic converter, a.k.a indomie, is said by Nigerians to be insignificant in vehicles, don't let it be missing in your vehicle. Its primary function is to make the smoke coming from any vehicle harmless, but it always works along with oxygen sensor(s) for fuel economy.

Once the catalytic converter is missing in your vehicle, the check engine light will stay on, and we discussed earlier the reason for not letting it stay on. Although a spacer and the likes could deceive some vehicles' ECU, that catalytic converter is present in the vehicle. If the factory-fitted catalytic converter of your vehicle is missing, it will be tough to get another factory-fitted one, and if you must get it, you will pay through your nose. We are not talking about rubbish and cheap ones in the Nigerian market, factory-fitted.

Imagine someone in 2017 who was given a quote of N30,000 for a tokunbo catalyst or a brand new one from China. He eventually got a brand new one, which is very close to a factory one from the US, at a cost of over N80,000. He used the catalytic converter until he sold the vehicle last year without spoiling it. If he had gotten any of the ones quoted for N30,000, he must have changed it several times till he got tired of changing.

That is one reason why most vehicles in Nigeria have check engine lights on them, and vehicle illiterates see the light on vehicles as a normal thing.
